Hi:
I have just signed up on facebook, and there are a couple of games that I want to play on there; but when I click on them the music is louder than my screen reader. Is there a way to turn the music down so I can hear what the screen reader says? Are there any games that I can play on facebook? Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you.
i'll go ahead and respond to this now. No. none of the games are accessible, everything is in flash. also, the regular facebook site is too damn complicated for me to handle, so I just use m.facebook.com. it's the site that many people use for there mobile phones and stuff, it's more accessible and stuff, but there are things that you can't do on it that you have to be using the regular site for. and, you can use Miranda with facebook as well. jo, if you need that plug-in tell me and i'll send it your way.
zak.
let me make a few points.
1:. you say that none of the games are accessible, they all use flash. this is not entirely true, because i've managed to use the quiz making tool and take the surveys often, i play mafia wars and i know some people who go on farmville. so yeah, you can play games on there. oh yes... and school of wizardry there's another one. i think it was sarah or someone that taught me how to play that!. also thee applications like sending greeting cards and sending other gifts to your friends work a treat.
2:. you said the facebook site is too hard for you to navigate. while it might not be the easiest, i wouldn't call it hard at all. i've done a lot of stuff with the main site including creating a few groups and use the music player ( another accessible application!)
3:. the mobile site is great, though i'm going to complain to facebook as they took away the ability to leave groups and i know i could do that usually. leaving pages is just fine though.
Writer you asked about this on Quicknotes to summarize:
If you are using XP the answer is no. The reason is that their player doesn't have a volume control in it, at least not one that's exposed for a reader to use.
Using Windows Vista or Windows 7, the OS provides a volume slider for each app, but this did not come along until Windows vista. So you'd have to run the app (the game) and then run Volume Control, and turn down the volume for the browser. If you are wanting to use your BrailleNote or an external sound card for speech, you'll have to check with the reader's documentation and see if you can. I've used NVDA and JAWS. JAWS does, but NVDA appears to only do its own speech via the open source RealSpeak, or you can use Sapi voices.
Farmville is not accesseble
I didn't think Farmville was accessible either. Yes, if you are running Vista or Windows 7, with a browser window open, go to y our volume control and one of the options listed will be your web browser. You can turn sounds all the way off if you wish, but just be aware that this will apply to any audio you try to listen to through your browser such as audio from youtube and so forth.
Thanks for the answers to the question; I am able to play a game called secrets about your friends, and maybe one or two more; I think what I'm gonna do is get a serial cable and use my BN for things like the family feud and others when I can't tell what is said because of the music being so loud. Thanks to those who have helped me, but any other suggestions is appreciated.
I can't get it to work, but I'm relatively sure Farmville is accessible I know a few people that use it.
hay guys I like this cite better than facebook, but none of my facebook friends are here. I have not been able to play many of the games however, the quizs I can play but I can not play any of the games. There is a putision going around facebook to make the games and other stuff acsessable. If you go to rthe search box and type the facebook change for ecsessability you will find it. But I cant figgure out how to sign my name on their wall. If anyone can do that let me know. Its not like other walls, it just won't let you post to it.
Since someone brought up the plugin for Miranda I'll ask this question here.
Since about a few months ago I've been getting an error each time I load Miranda, it says "Facebook API has changed, wait and watch for the Facebook protocol update" or something similar, yet I know people who are still using the Facebook plugin. does anyone know how I can fix this?
